Originally known as 'The Middle Head Spring Ball', the Sydney Military Officers' Spring Ball was first held in 2006 and hosted by 10th Terminal Regiment. Upon the relocation of 10th Terminal Regiment to Townsville, the Officers of Victoria Barracks - Sydney decided that an annual Ball must continue! And so in 2009, the Spring Ball was reborn as the 'Sydney Military Officers' Spring Ball' and has now become the premier military social activity of the year, bringing together Officers and their guests from the various Army, Navy and Air Force bases across Sydney.
Honouring the proud history of the Officers' Mess, each year the privilege of deciding the theme for that year's Spring Ball falls to the President of the Victoria Barracks Officers' Mess. Held within the spectacular Officers' Mess and surrounding grounds, the rich history of Victoria Barracks provides the perfect setting for an evening of fun, music, dancing and more than a little fanfare!
Every year, the Sydney Military Officers' Spring Ball serves as a major fundraising for Legacy. Established in 1923 by returned servicemen from the First World War, Legacy is a charity providing services to Australian families suffering after the injury or death of a spouse or parent, during or after their defence force service. Legacy currently care for around 65,000 widow(er)s and 1,800 children and disabled dependants throughout Australia, continuing their legacy of "caring for the families of those who served their country".
